This is a marriage of old and new. The blue/teal calico has to be 40 years old. At least. I have two bunchs of this, one is this blue, and another that is rusty brown. I remember my mother sewing a dress for me out of this blue when I was in kindergarten. The selvage says Bates Fabrics. Will have to google that.
I guess everything old is new again.
I was torn about using this. Part of me thought I should hang onto this fabric. Sentimental reasons. But in the end I thought that was silly. And I have never been sure I could use this fabric because it is so dang busy!!!! So in order to counter act the busyness, I added and ever busier fabric to the blouse!
The left, button side placket and the inside collar is stand is fabric I had left over from Christmas 2010's Great Messanger Bag Fest. Second to youngest daughter had this as a major part of her messanger bag. I was annoyed with my self after I was done, because I was left with this vaguely cross shaped piece of fabric. But it was perfect to get one long strip for the placket and a shorter narrower strip for the collar stand.
I know these fabrics shouldn't work together. But somehow, it pleases me. Frankly, I need fewer funky clothes and more classics. But this is what I reach for in my closet nearly every time. Crazy, kooky, funky.
