I finished my sock yarn. I ended up with about 340 yards of 2 ply. As I was plying it yesterday, I was wearing my tea leaves cardigan in Dream in Color's Ruby River colorway. And this yarn was a perfect match with the addition of deep blue and purple. I just love this color! I'll probably make some plain vanilla socks.
Earlier this week I picked up a pair of socks that was in the "to darn" pile. There was one small spot and would have been a quick fix. But before I did it, I examined the heels and balls of the feet. And they were pretty thin. They were my very first self striping yarn. Regia. I think it was clown? Or something like that. Bright yellow, lime green, electric blue and bright pink. It was this fun bright colorway.
But it was really dingy and dull. The socks looked like they had been dunked in a weak solution of grey dye water. Very sad. Not happy socks anymore.
Then I realized they were like 10 years old. They were among my earliest hand knit socks so I wore them very frequently. And with use and well water, they just weren't the same anymore.
So I retired them. The last couple winters I've been trying to make several pairs because of my socks are getting so worn and I'm darning the darning. So I tossed them. I didn't want to. But what would I save them for? I mean really?
Current project for me is a pair of socks in the Anastasia. My project on Rav is here. Fun pattern. Great to use with self striping yarns. I hope to get to and finish the heel in the second sock today.
